Word for word

The GTA VI map vs the GTA V map: what Rockstar said

No official figure. What Rockstar North said, as reported on August 27, 2026: by a creator invited to the studio, who quotes Rob Nelson, then by The New York Times, which quotes the studio. The words are quoted as they are, in English.

The map is twice the size of GTA 5’s map

TGG, creator invited to Rockstar North, reporting Rob Nelson’s figuresAugust 27, 2026TGG, YouTube

the studio said, is three times as large as the playable area

The New York Times, on the whole map compared with Red Dead Redemption 2’s; “the studio said”August 27, 2026The New York Times

Rockstar has never published these figures on its website or its Newswire: Rob Nelson, who co-runs Rockstar North, gave them to creators invited to the studio in July 2026, and they were reported on August 27, the day of An Extended Look. Based on the same figures, Vice City alone would be twice the size of Los Santos, GTA V’s city. The New York Times confirmed the comparison with Red Dead Redemption 2 with the studio.

No surface area in square miles or km² exists, for GTA VI or for GTA V: Rockstar has never published one. On the site, the interactive map lists the places spotted in official media, region by region; it doesn’t measure the game’s surface area.

The squares show that ratio, not a measurement: Rockstar has published no surface area for either game. The background of the GTA V square is the game’s map, as it appears in GTA V. The background of the GTA VI square is the site’s map, a community reconstruction.
