Grassrivers
Leonida’s wild swamps, where the alligator is the most famous attraction.
The country’s largest subtropical wilderness: mangroves, slow channels and flooded plains you cross by airboat. Rockstar calls it Leonida’s untamed jewel, as beautiful as it is dangerous.

Overview
Grassrivers is Leonida’s version of the Everglades: a huge subtropical wetland of mangroves, slow canals, flooded plains and cypress trees. Rockstar describes it as the state’s untamed jewel, as beautiful as it is dangerous, where alligators are the most famous attraction and where you mostly get around by airboat. Hunting, fishing and poaching sit side by side with wildlife protection units. The official screenshots show a police chase through the swamps, stilt buildings and mud-covered locals posing with their catch on an airboat. It’s home turf for the Airboat 09 and the Vortex, and proof that you won’t explore the map only by car.
In the artwork and in the story
Rockstar presents Grassrivers as the largest subtropical wilderness in the country and as an untamed jewel: alligators, airboats, hunting and fishing, poachers and wildlife protection. The official screenshots show a pickup chase through the swamps, locals posing with their catch on an airboat, stilt buildings and two men on an airboat surrounded by alligators.
On the ground
On the ground, you get around the region differently: by airboat, by kayak or on foot along the boardwalks. The Airboat 09 and Vortex Airboat pages are linked to it, along with the semi-automatic rifle and the double-barrel shotgun seen with its locals. The Leonidakit map marks its wetlands and water access points.
Key points
- Mangroves, slow channels and flooded plains: the home turf of the airboats seen in the trailers.
- Rockstar calls it the state’s untamed jewel, as beautiful as it is dangerous.
- Hunting, fishing and poaching go on there right alongside wildlife protection units.

2018

What’s still to be confirmed
- Do airboats go anywhere in the swamp, or only along set waterways?
- Hunting and poaching: which species, and what is a catch worth?
- Do wildlife officers go after poachers?
Nobody has the answer yet: these points will be filled in with the game, on November 19, 2026.
