What Rockstar confirmed during the Extended Look.

Sidearms

Hidden inventory, like in previous games. Two sidearms concealed on you, according to Rob Nelson (see “Combat: what changes”); nothing more has been published.

Long guns

Two at most. Only one can be carried on your back; the other has to stay in your hand.

Vehicles

Can serve as storage to carry more gear.

Reactions

Passersby step away from a visible weapon. The police react depending on the situation.

Customization

The weapon workshop is back, with engravings, tints and liveries billed as more in-depth.

You often see totals of 32, 37 or 41 weapons. Those numbers partly come from the September 2022 leak, whose content doesn’t necessarily reflect the final game and was never validated by Rockstar. Here we only count what’s visible in official material.

Gear and gadgets

The game introduces a two-part wheel, in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption 2: weapons on one side, gear on the other. These items take their own slots and are mostly used for heists and stealth missions.

Limited inventory

Two sidearms always concealed, plus two long guns: one on your back, the other in your hand. The rest goes in the vehicle, which works as a mobile locker.

Caveat. Exactly how you access the trunk and what it can hold aren’t detailed; according to the previews, only your personal vehicle keeps its full load.

Expanded drive-bys

In the Extended Look, Jason, riding in the back, fires an automatic rifle through the rear window during a chase. Trailer 2 shows Lucia firing a grenade launcher from the back of a vehicle.

Caveat. Standing up to shoot from a pickup bed is reported by fan sites with no official footage: to be confirmed.

Shooting underwater

Diving shows up in the official screenshots, and scuba diving is among the activities cited by Game Informer. No trailer, screenshot or Rockstar statement shows a weapon used underwater.

Caveat. The speargun is only mentioned by fan sites, based on the 2022 leaks, which this site doesn’t use. We write it as a question, not a fact.

How passersby react

A long gun on your back doesn’t bother anyone; in your hand, “people don’t like that”: they react and move away. Rob Nelson: pulling a rifle out of nowhere like in GTA V “doesn’t work anymore at this resolution”.

Caveat. How the police react to a visible weapon (a call, wanted level) isn’t detailed.

Shoulder swap

The camera shoulder swap while aiming is back: you move the camera to the other side to shoot from a cover angle. Default aim locks on to targets less than before, and enemies don’t show up on the radar.

Caveat. Seen during Rockstar North’s August 27, 2026 demo and reported by the media; no Rockstar page describes it. “Shooting left- or right-handed” isn’t confirmed anywhere: it’s the camera that switches sides.

Customization

The official screenshots show engraved, painted or gold weapons (the Ultimate Edition’s “Personalized Weapon Variants”, the “Vintage Vice City” pattern) and weapons with attachments, like Jason’s scoped carbine.

Caveat. Magazines, special ammo, liveries and the customization menu itself aren’t shown. The edition variants are announced bonus content, not a described mechanic.

How to read this page

Rockstar hasn’t published any official weapon list. So each entry shows its certainty level, like on our Leonida map.

Named by Rockstar

The name appears as is in official material: pre-order material, the cover art, Rockstar’s website or the Only in Leonida pages.

Seen in official media

The weapon is visible in Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the August 27, 2026 Extended Look or an official screenshot, but Rockstar hasn’t given its name.

Community identification

The name or the real-world equivalent comes from a visual match made by players. It’s neither a confirmation from Rockstar nor an official license.

Our rule. No real-world brand or model is presented as confirmed by Rockstar: matches like “Grotti suggests Ferrari” are observations, never official statements. And nothing on this page comes from leaks.

How to read these pages. Five weapons have been named by Rockstar so far: Jason’s Girardi ES9, Lucia’s Klose K17 and the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers in the Ultimate Edition material, the Nipper .38, whose name is engraved on the weapon on the cover art, and the Mustang .357, whose name is engraved on a female biker’s revolver in the Ambrosia screenshots. All the others are identified visually in the trailers, the Extended Look and the official screenshots; their English names are ours, and the real-world inspirations come from community matches.

Weapons that only appear in leaks are deliberately left out here.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many weapons are in GTA VI?
Rockstar hasn’t published a total. We list 27 weapons visible in official material, 5 of them named by Rockstar. The totals of 32 to 41 you see elsewhere are partly based on the 2022 leak, which we don’t use.
How many weapons can you carry?
Two sidearms and two long guns on you. The vehicle’s trunk works as extra storage, with four slots shown on screen.
Is weapon customization coming back?
Official footage shows weapons fitted with sights and attachments, and a weapon with a custom finish. The full system hasn’t been detailed.
Can you shoot underwater?
Yes, the speargun appears in the underwater footage. It’s a first for the series.
Are melee weapons back?
Yes: the bat, hammer, golf club and pool cue are visible, with reworked melee animations.
Why not use the list from the leaks?
Because it dates from September 2022, it describes a much earlier development build, and it was never confirmed. Publishing that data would mean spreading stolen and possibly fake material.
