Police, sheriffs and Coast Guard, GTA VI
Law enforcement in Leonida
No witness or alarm, no one comes looking.
Vice City police, county sheriffs, marine police and Coast Guard: what the trailers and screenshots show of the people chasing Jason and Lucia.

Overview
GTA VI doesn’t introduce its police forces in any text, but they’re all over the images. An Ultimate Edition screenshot shows a patrol boat marked Vice City Police, with the Vice City Police Dept badge, and a helicopter in the same colors. Trailer 1 shows a Vice-Dale Police Department car and the Leonard County Sheriff’s Office; an Ambrosia screenshot shows the sign for the Ambrosia County Sheriff’s Office. The site lists about fifteen service vehicles seen on screen: patrol cars, SUVs, pickups, an armored van, helicopters, police boats and boats from the Coast Guard, which Cal Hampton listens to on the radio according to his official introduction. Lucia, for her part, comes out of the Leonida Penitentiary.
What official media show
In Trailer 2, an armored van faces Lucia during her escape, around 1:59. The August 27, 2026 Extended Look opens with an armed raid that interrupts a delivery at Venture Apartments, and later shows a police chase through Vice City. The names of the other agencies and the Coast Guard’s place in the story haven’t been published.
What we know for the game
Rob Nelson gave IGN and Famitsu a few rules. A crime is only reported if someone sees it or an alarm goes off, and the stars go up based on how serious it is, without going overboard. Glasses, a cap or a new haircut aren’t enough to make them forget you: the police know your clothes, so you have to change them at a store or with the spare outfit in the trunk of your personal vehicle.
Key points

- Rockstar introduces Cal Hampton as someone who listens in on Coast Guard communications; the Coast Guard’s boats appear in the screenshots.
- According to Rob Nelson, a crime with no witness and no alarm isn’t reported.

Series benchmarks
What earlier games did along the same lines: benchmarks to get an idea, not information about GTA VI.
2002
GTA Vice City
Six stars already, all the way up to the army, and the VCPD’s Vice Squad Cheetah.
2013
GTA V
Five stars, a circular search zone and police lines of sight: hiding becomes a game in itself.
What’s still to be confirmed
- How will the “criminal profile” mentioned by the press work?
- Will the Coast Guard chase you on the water like the police on the road?
Nobody has the answer yet: these points will be filled in with the game, on November 19, 2026.
