GTA VI: release date, editions, prices and preloading, everything official
One date, two editions, a pre-order pack, a disc-less box and a preload one week ahead: here is everything Rockstar, Take-Two, PlayStation and Xbox have published about the release of GTA VI, and nothing else. Every line points to its source.

The release date and the platforms
Two delays, then a date held for a year: GTA VI releases on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar first announced the game for 2025, then for May 26, 2026, apologizing to players. On November 6, 2025, a new message set the release for Thursday, November 19, 2026, the time needed to finish the game with the intended level of polish. Since then, the date hasn’t moved: Take-Two confirmed it in its August 7, 2026 results, and the launch trailer of October 15 repeats it.
The game releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version is announced: Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s boss, said again in September that GTA VI releases solo on two major platforms, and Xbox specified in October that it won’t be streamed in the cloud or as an exclusive, nor to PC. The exact time depends on your console: the PlayStation Store shows a release at midnight local time. The site counts down on its home page with that rule, and the preloading page details what to do the day before.
Standard or Ultimate
The two editions and the Ultimate upgrade
The game, or the game with sixteen extra items spread across Jason and Lucia’s story.
The Standard Edition contains the full game. The Ultimate Edition adds the Ultimate upgrade: sixteen items discovered chapter after chapter, including the Grotti Cheetah ’95, the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, the Classic Car Collection, the Rideout Customs shop, the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and the PTT Youngin$ hangout. Two rules to know: the Ultimate Edition doesn’t exist as a box, and the Ultimate upgrade is bought separately, digitally, at any time once the game code has been used. Rockstar states it on its support page about platforms and editions.

No price of an item in the game itself is published: no car, weapon or business price. Before November 20
What pre-ordering gives you
- The Vintage Vice City Pack: the Vapid Stanier ’55 and its garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. For any pre-order or digital purchase before November 20, 2026, and for the boxed pre-order. See the Stanier’s page.
- A month of GTA+, Rockstar’s paid service, for a digital purchase of either edition before November 20, 2026; to be activated before March 31, 2027 on PlayStation, within 180 days of purchase on Xbox. Rockstar Support doesn’t mention it for the boxed version.
- Preloading from November 12, 2026, at midnight local time, for digital pre-orders and for the box, whose code can be activated on receipt.
Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time, on the digital stores and at some retailers. PlayStation presented the PS5 the same day as the console where the game plays best. Everything is detailed, sources included, on the bonuses page.
No disc
The boxed version
The box contains a download code, not a disc. It’s available from November 12, 2026, for delivery or pickup at the retailer, and its code lets you preload the game from that day. It exists for the Standard Edition only: with the box, the Ultimate upgrade is then bought digitally on the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store.
It can also be pre-ordered on the Rockstar Store. For an order issue or a cancellation, Xsolla’s support is the one that answers, and taxes may be added outside the United States and the United Kingdom. If you’re torn between the box and digital, the rule is simple: same content, same preloading, but no Ultimate as a box and no month of GTA+ mentioned by the support for this version.
