Green iguana

An invasive species soaking up the sun in the Keys.

Rockstar lists it among Leonida’s invasive species; two Keys screenshots show it, one in close-up on a tree trunk, the other in the middle of the street.

Overview

The green iguana is one of the few species Rockstar names specifically. In the Game Informer cover story, Michael Kane lists it among the invasive species living alongside Leonida’s native wildlife, just like in real-life Florida. It’s also one of the best-shown animals: an official Leonida Keys screenshot is entirely devoted to it.

What the images show

In the Keys screenshot, the iguana fills the whole foreground, clinging to a trunk leaning over clear water, with a small palm island and birds in flight in the distance. Another screenshot of the archipelago shows one in the middle of the street, between a cyclist, passersby and a mobility scooter rider.

What happens in the game

Nothing has been published about any role for the iguana in the game. It’s part of the Keys’ living scenery, alongside the shore birds.
