The star of the swamps, and not the only predator in the mangroves.

Grassrivers’ most famous attraction according to Rockstar: you see it swimming around airboats, and strung up by the swamp hunters.

Overview

The alligator is the animal Rockstar puts front and center for Grassrivers, Leonida’s swamps: its official page calls it the region’s most famous attraction, before adding that far more dangerous predators and stranger discoveries await in the mangroves. In the Game Informer cover story published on September 29, 2026, Michael Kane, Rockstar’s vice president in charge of dynamic art, lists it among the state’s native species, along with manatees, flamingos and pelicans.

What the images show

Seen from the sky, one screenshot shows three alligators swimming among the water plants around an airboat. Another puts two in the water during a chase between a pickup, an airboat and the police. Among the swamp locals, a dead alligator lies on the deck of the Airgator 09 airboat, and a smaller one hangs from a chain under a shelter, next to an armed man.

What happens in the game

Rockstar hasn’t published anything on what the alligator does to the player: no attacks, no dedicated hunt, no catch to sell. Hunting is announced in general, and the Grassrivers screenshots show catches on display, without saying whether the alligator can be hunted in the game. The airboats seen alongside it have their own pages.
